Art of French Baking
When my husband and I got married we created two “off limit” areas. I promised to never complain about his purchases of ski gear and he promised to never complain about my purchases of kitchen gear. He thought he had won by a longshot until I had cookbook shelves built into our kitchen in New Orleans. Let’s not bother with numbers but let’s just say that I have *cough* many cookbooks. (Although a friend doing a renovation of a house in London has added a COOKBOOK LIBRARY off of her kitchen. This is me, green with envy). Anyway notice that even though this page lists Our Favorite Things we are kicking off with but one cookbook. The Art of French Baking.
This book is gorgeous, simple, expansive and inspirational. The chocolate gateau with almonds is beyond compare. Îles flottantes? In here. Profiteroles? Done. Madelines? Yes. Macaroons? Of course.
The book is also fantastic because all measures are done by weight, not volume which is immensely better than volume. Provided you have one of these of course.
Great for yourself. Excellent for gift giving.

If you want to write recipes, it is invaluable to double check your work and your measurements. If you DO splash out and get one I would recommend following it up with our favorite French Baking cookbook too! […]
