Gorgeous (affordable) wine glasses.
I worked for a restaurant company based out of NYC for six years. It was a fantastic time to be at the company and a fantastic time to be in NYC. One of the many benefits we had was that we could occasionally buy food, wine and glasses at the restaurant company’s cost. This was an enormous discount and was extremely important to me because, as I’ve mentioned before, I love entertaining but was spending 64% of my take home pay on rent. I didn’t have much left for hosting parties. I used this generous discount once to buy wine glasses and for some ridiculous reason I decided I should buy 36 of them. They came in 6-packs and what 25-year-old doesn’t have space in their Manhattan apartment to store 36 wine glasses? Right. Exactly. I’m certifiable.
Well my discount is gone but my desire to host impromptu parties for 36 people remains and so does my budget conscious nature. Roll on Crate & Barrel! They sell these really REALLY super wine glasses for $6 each. The best part is that they feel like great expensive glasses. I’ve had plenty of guests at dinner parties break them and turn immediately a shade of pale green, until I tell them that they are super cheap and that we own about 40 of them.
They sell loads of different styles but the Oregon style is my current favorite. The way the bowl meets the stem of the glass is really elegant and is reminiscent of a much more expensive piece.
